-30, Winter is officially here!

We had such a mild January here in Butte, Montana that for a second, this summer loving person was not minding winter at all! But then February came and the temps plunged down to -30, and one day, even -40! So relieved that I decided to learn studio lighting and do some indoor work this year! As busy as January was, I did manage to sneak a little time in and take some pictures of my son. In the photo below, he is happily shoveling snow on a chilly but sunny day. I learned how to add snow via the magic of Photoshop and wow – what a cool image! I could really have fun with that program. February is also the start of birthday season for Uptown Photography. Cake smashes are all the rage these days and I LOVE doing them! Cake and babies….I really do have the best job in the world!

Oooooh Baby!

Babies…what a great way to start the year off! I began the year by enrolling in the very popular studio lighting class “Illuminate” taught by The Milky Way. Its made a world of difference in my images! I offered a special promotion in January for newborn and baby sessions so I could practice my new lighting skills. My first session was an absolute dream. Check back for more sneak peeks of my upcoming baby sessions!

Sweet dreams, little one.

Happy Holidays!

My favorite time of the year! I love everything about Christmas – the music, the food, the lights, the merriment! I wish it would last all year. Having a toddler brings a whole new meaning to the holiday. My little boy is fascinated with the snow, the “pretty tree” in our living room, the nightly ritual of getting a piece of chocolate from the advent calendar and the silly red Santa hat Mom keeps putting on his head. I could follow him around with the camera all day and try and capture all of these firsts but instead, I forced the photographer in me to take just a few pictures, put the camera away, and enjoy the moment WITH him. Happy holidays everyone!!

How It All Began….

My journey into the world of photography began the day my son was born.  After five years of infertility, numerous tests and procedures and thousands of dollars, holding him in my arms was such a dream come true for me – I just wanted to capture every single moment of his life.  I took literally thousands of pictures of him with my iPhone.  I used a simple point and shoot after that – having these visions in my head of what I wanted the outcome to be and becoming frustrated with my limited knowledge and equipment. Shortly before he turned a year old, I invested in my first DSLR and dove head first into books, classes, tutorials – anything I could get my hands on that would show me how to capture these memories in the way that I “felt” them. Thus, my love for photography was born!
